The  Child Rescue Center was developed for orphaned or abandoned boys from the ages of 7-20 from the slums of Nyeri and the surrounding area.  The Center provides residential care for the boys attending local primary schools.  As none of the children are capable of paying for their room, board or tuition, all residential and educational costs are provided gratuitously.  Senior students from St. Mary’s Boys High School (which is located next to the Rescue Center) provide additional after-school tutoring.  Students graduating from primary school are immediately accepted into Saint Mary’s Boys High School where they receive training until graduation.  Some students will be 18 years old when they graduate; others, because of educational disabilities or truancy earlier in their lives, may be 20 years old.  Upon graduation, 86% of the students are accepted into universities for continuing study.
